The Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver, Scottsboro Extension, an extension of the BEAR VALLEY BIBLE INSTITUTE of DENVER, was started in June of 2000. It is conducted under the oversight of the elders of the BROAD STREET CHURCH OF CHRIST in Scottsboro, Alabama. Its purpose is to prepare Christians for service in the cause of Christ. It is for men who want to train to be gospel preachers, men and women who want to train as Bible teachers, and all who want to be strengthened as Christians, elders, or deacons.

BEAR VALLEY BIBLE INSTITUTE

The Bear Valley Bible Institute was begun by the Bear Valley church of Christ in Denver, Colorado in 1965. Roy H. Lanier, Sr. and Ed Wharton were the first teachers. J. J. Turner is the current president. Bear Valley has earned a reputation for loyalty to the Word of God and academic excellence.

STUDY PROGRAM

The program of study will consist of 40 courses falling under the categories of: Biblical Studies (classes on the text of the Bible), Study Skills, Biblical Language, Personal Evangelism, Missions, Practical Christian living, Ministerial Development, Doctrinal Courses, and Apologetics. One course will be taught each month in two all-day sessions on Saturdays. Students will be given out-of-class assignments and exams. These courses will be taught ten months of the year (July and December off). If a student must be absent on class day, an audio tape of the lesson and class assignments will be sent by mail.

DEGREES

128 credit hours are required for the BACHELOR OF BIBLICAL STUDIES degree. 120 of these credit hours can be earned by the 40 courses described above. The remaining 8 credit hours can be earned through a number of special and practicum courses (including such things as campaigns and VBS). The Bachelor degree can thus be earned in four years of study. These 40 courses will be presented in a continuous cycle, making it possible to begin at any time during the year and continue studies uninterrupted until the degree is earned. A two-year ASSOCIATES degree requires 60 credit hours. This is a demanding course of study taught on the college level. A degree earned through the Scottsboro extension of BVBID will be of genuine value! A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and previous college credit or credit from other preacher training schools can be applied (as approved by Bear Valley Bible Institute). The Bachelor degree earned at Scottsboro will qualify one to apply for Bear Valleys MASTER OF BIBLICAL STUDIES program (Not offered at the Scottsboro extension).

TEACHERS

As is true of the Denver campus, teachers in the Scottsboro extension will be proven, capable men who know the Bible, love the Bible, and are doctrinally sound and balanced. At least one course each year will be taught by teachers from the Denver campus. Larry Holland, deacon at Broad Street and retired college instructor, will serve as our dean.

NON-CREDIT STUDENTS

Participation in the classes on a not-for-credit basis is greatly encouraged! One of the principal goals of the school is to provide an opportunity for all to become better grounded in the Word of God, and thus to become stronger Christians, elders, deacons, Bible teachers, and ministers.

COST

The school is tuition-free. The only cost to the student will be for books and materials. On each Saturday when school is in session, the students will be asked to make a minimal contribution toward the travel expenses of the teacher. For students who need it, some overnight lodging may be available in the homes of Broad Street members.
